What is Liberation Day?
Liberation Day is one of Guernsey's most significant celebrations. It's held annually on the 9th May, the day in 1945 when the Channel Islands became free from German occupation during World War II.
2025 was the 80th anniversary of liberation. For this milestone, the celebrations were bigger including a Royal visit from HRH The Princess Royal, Princess Anne.

The 80th celebration featured a mixture of regular and unique displays including the fly-pasts of period aircrafts such as Spitfires, a recreation of the British forces landing to free the island, a military parade lead by the Royal Marines Band Scotland, the largest cavalcade of pedestrians, floats, military vehicles, vintage cars and tractors, and concluding with fireworks and a first-time drone show.
