Whispers of Freedom - a short film made by local talent was premiered in Guernsey, with a Q&A session with some of cast and crew members.
The short film was a Guernsey-German co-production, produced by local production company Golden Goat Films and supported by Guernsey Arts and the DDR Museum in Berlin.
Whispers of Freedom is set in 1980s East Germany during the Cold War. It's based off the true story of Chris Gueffroy - one of the last attempted escapees from East Berlin by crossing the Berlin Wall.
The short film first premiered at the Sunderland Shorts Film Festival in May 2025, and recently made local history by becoming the first Guernsey film to qualify for the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA’s). It's qualified for the 2025 Best British Short Film Award category.
